Canto de la Sibila

Nicolaiconcert

The Nicolaïkerk (St. Nicholas church) is a medieval church in the southern part of the old city of Utrecht in the Netherlands. This building is the home of two very interesting instruments, the organ built by Marcussen and the carillon built by the famous Hemony brothers (17th century). These instruments are the backbone for a series of concerts, which are organised each year by the Stichting Culturele Evenementen Nicolaïkerk (Foundation for Cultural Events in the Nicolaïkerk ).

Duration of the concerts is approx. 45 minutes.
Tickets are sold at the entrance of the church, doors open half an hour before concert start time. No reservation is needed.

For the current program you can browse our program agenda.

The Nicolaikerk is located at the Nicolaaskerkhof in the inner city of Utrecht (See city map Utrecht).

Ob-literate

composition for organ, vocal ensemble and electronics

Ob-literate, created by Zeno van den Broek and Gagi Petrovic, is a composition for organ, vocal ensemble, electronics and performative objects. Inspired by the philosophy of Walter Benjamin and the poetry of Adam Staley Groves the two composers construct an intense and alienating listening experience. The audience is taken on a journey in which the music is being dismantled. In a course of destruction the music transforms from an impenetrable mass to transparant and uncharted forms. A transformation that will not go unmarked. Ob-literate delivers a concert experience full of electroacoustic music with top musicians in contemporary music.

Zeno van den Broek is a visual and sound artist with a background in architecture whose work revolves around space, spatiality and time. He uses auditive and visual means of expression, like (sound) installations, paintings, albums and solo performances that question and intensify space and spatial awareness.

Gagi Petrovic is a composer who creates electro-acoustic music for various contexts, such as live concert situations and dance- and (music)theatre productions. His music shows his big love for all forms of intensity and usually sounds like something that's on the edge of contemporary composition, digital electronics and alternative pop.
